The first proper snow of the season fell overnight, and I woke up to that special kind of quiet — the whole world hushed and soft and white, like someone had tucked a blanket over everything. I did what any girl who loves a little drama would do: I made a cup of something warm, stood at the window in my socks for far too long, and then went digging through my closet for the pinkest thing I own. Snow days are basically an invitation to be a princess about it, and I was not about to decline.
There is something about a redhead in fresh snow that just feels right to me. All that cool blue-white light, and then this little warm-toned girl grinning in the middle of it with pink cheeks and pinker cheeks-from-the-cold. I spent the morning twirling, catching flakes, and absolutely failing to keep my mittens dry, and honestly I would not change a single frozen second of it.
Pink Coats & The Softest Scarves
My winter uniform this year is very simple: a good pink coat and a scarf so soft you want to nap in it. The coat is a thrifted find I have loved half to death — a dreamy dusty-rose wool that I re-styled with a little belt of mine to nip it in at the waist, because the original shape was a bit boxy and I like a silhouette that feels a touch more coquette. It cost me almost nothing and it makes me feel like the main character every single time I put it on.
The scarves are where I let myself go a little soft and silly. I have a growing pile of them in every shade of blush and cream, most of them secondhand, and I layer them until I basically disappear into fluff. A pale pink knit, a vintage silk one knotted underneath for a bit of shine — that little mix of textures is my favourite trick for making a plain winter outfit feel considered without trying too hard.
Thrifted Layers That Actually Keep You Warm
People assume looking girly in winter means freezing for the aesthetic, and I promise it does not have to. The secret is layers, and thrift shops are heaven for that — chunky knits, slip dresses to wear over long-sleeves, wool tights, the occasional faux-fur collar I add onto a coat myself. I love that almost everything I wore in the snow this week had a life before me. Giving pretty old things a second winter feels like the whole point.
If you want to see the outtakes — the ones where I am mid-laugh with snow in my hair and absolutely no elegance whatsoever — I posted a whole little snowy set over on my Instagram, and there are more soft moments waiting for you. And if you are new here and want to know the girl behind all the pink, my about page is a cozy place to start.
For now I am back at the window with my tea, watching the flakes come down again, feeling very grateful for pink coats and cold noses and quiet mornings. Winter, when you dress for it and let yourself play in it, is the softest season of all. #liviasloves
